Editorial standards

How we report and publish

Standards designed to keep commercial food reporting useful, attributable and independent.

Verification and sourcing

We prefer primary documents, regulator notices, company filings and named sources. When reporting is based on another publication, that publication is identified and linked.

Material claims should be supported by the article body or its named source. Unverified social posts and anonymous promotional claims are not treated as established fact.

Independence and commercial material

News selection is not for sale. Advertising, sponsorship or supplied material must not be presented as independent editorial reporting. Product and company announcements require a wider news or market context.

Translation and automation

Automation may assist transcription, translation, formatting and quality checks. Publication remains subject to editorial rules, source attribution and review for obvious language corruption or unsupported claims.

Corrections and fairness

Material factual errors should be corrected promptly and transparently. People and organisations criticised in a report may submit evidence or a response for editorial consideration.
